Ancelotti and Benítez, 16 years after the 'miracle of Istanbul'

16 years have passed since the so-called'miracle of Istanbul' (miracle for the'red' fans, the other way around for the red-black), from the night Liverpool came back from a 3-0 against Milan and won their fifth Champions League (in 2018-19 they got the sixth and so far last).

It is 14 years since Milan returned the blow to Liverpool, and in Athens they beat Anfield 2-1, in which the San Siro conquered for the seventh time (and for now, the last). Time has passed, but Rafa Bentez, in both finals as coach of Milan, and Carlos Ancelotti (of Milan), are still on top of their careers.

Ancelotti, 62, will make his Champions League debut as Real Madrid coach against Inter on Wednesday.Benítez, 61, does not have European competition this season, since Everton, whom he has trained since this summer, did not achieve a place, but has placed Goodison Park at the top of the Premier after the first 4 days, tied with Manchester United, leaders thanks to goal difference, Chelsea and Liverpool.

If Liverpool and Milan have only met in an official match in those two Champions League finals, Bentez and Ancelotti have done so in two more matches, in this case in the Premier League. It was in the 2009-10 season, with the Madrid coach still directing Liverpool and Ancelotti at the helm of Chelsea. The Italian achieved two wins, 2-0 and 0-2 against the 'reds' in the English championship.

Protagonists as rivals from the bench in two great Champions League finals, Ancelotti and Bentez each have a dreamlike track record. Jürgen Klopp currently coaches Liverpool and Stefano Pioli, Milan.

Today's Real Madrid coach has won three Champions, three European Super Cups, a Club World Cup, a Serie A, a Coppa Italia, a Supercoppa from Italy, a Premier, an FA Cup, a Community Shield, a Ligue 1 and a Copa del Rey. For his part, Bentez has won one Champions League, two UEFA/Europa Leagues, one Club World Cup, two Italian Super Cups, two leagues, one FA Cup, one Community Shield, one Italian Cup, and one Italian Super Cup.
